Fellowship Baptist Church Core Beliefs
Bible
We believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God.
- Both the Old and New Testaments are fully God's Word.
- Written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.
- The Bible is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living because it is inspired by God; it is the truth without error.
God
We believe He is the creator and ruler of the universe and is all-powerful, all-loving, and all-wise.
- He has eternally existed in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature.
- Father, Son, and Spirit are co-equal and are one God.
Jesus Christ
We believe in the absolute and essential deity of our Lord Jesus Christ
- He is co-equal with the Father, meaning He is wholly God and wholly man.
- He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless human life, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross.
- After three days, he arose from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death.
- He ascended to Heaven and will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the absolute and essential deity and in the personality of the Holy Spirit.
- His is co-equal with the Father and the Son.
- He is present in the world to make people aware of their sins and their need for Jesus Christ.
- He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.
- He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.
- He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved, to be used in service to the church and bring Glory to God.
- Christians are to seek to live under His control daily.
Mankind
We believe that Adam was divinely created in the image of God
- Humans are the supreme object of God's creation
- Humans were created innocent and pure, in perfect fellowship with God, but that fellowship was broken through the sin of Adam.
- Humans are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin."
- This sin separates people from God.
- ALL humans are in need of forgiveness and redemption.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is by the sovereign grace of God
- Salvation is God's free gift to all people but we must accept it
- We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.
- Salvation comes only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness.
- Salvation comes only through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ.
- When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.
God gives those that believe in eternal life through Jesus Christ. The true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you are genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by Sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be forever united with Him is Heaven. Heaven and hell are real places for eternal existence.
